Ultrasound

If your provider wants to get a better visualization of your arteries, veins, and heart, she can order an angiogram. This is most often used to find restrictions of blood flow to the heart. During this procedure, a contrast dye is injected to give your provider a clear image of your heart and surrounding blood vessels.

By selecting “with and without contrast,” your search will include results from imaging centers who provide both types of CT scans.

An CT scan with contrast helps radiologists get a better picture of what’s going on inside your body. If you order an CT scan with contrast, you will be injected with a gadolinium- or iodine-based dye before the imaging procedure begins.

An CT scan without contrast simply means you are not injected with the contrast dye. These CT scans are most often ordered to examine your organs and bones after injury, or when a patient has low-functioning kidneys or is pregnant.

Arthrograms are used to study joints. During arthrography, a doctor injects the contrast dye directly into the joint, then a series of images are taken of the joint in multiple positions. This can help reveal tears in the soft tissue, or other damage.

This type of CT scan focuses solely on the legs, to determine whether or not the bones in one leg are longer than the other. This procedure is most commonly performed on children, but can be used for patients of any age.

Bilateral mammograms examine both breasts, whereas unilateral mammograms look at only one breast.

Many women have dense breast tissue — this is not considered harmful or even abnormal, but it may prevent doctors from getting a clear view of abnormalities in the breast from a mammogram alone. A bilateral mammogram with an ultrasound is when the doctor performs a mammogram and an ultrasound on both breasts.
