Vitamin B3, or niacin, plays an important role in maintaining a healthy digestive system, nervous system, and skin.

  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 2-10 days
  • Age: 18+

Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is an essential vitamin that plays a vital role in supporting the nervous system and digestive system, and also promotes healthy skin. Niacin also assists in converting food into energy, and improves circulation and cholesterol levels.

The Vitamin B3 Blood Test works by collecting a blood sample and measuring the levels of vitamin B3 within that sample. Your body does not produce B vitamins on its own. Niacin, and other B vitamins, are ingested through foods such as meat, fish, eggs, poultry, nuts, and leafy greens, or through supplements.

No special preparation required.

You cannot take a Vitamin B3 Blood Test at home — a vitamin B3 lab test can only be administered by a medical professional at a licensed testing facility.

Once you receive the results of your Vitamin B3 Blood Test, you will need to consult with your provider. Only a medical professional can advise you on the results of your vitamin B3 levels and help you develop a treatment plan if necessary.

People with health conditions that impact how the body absorbs nutrients, or who are on certain medications, can be at risk of developing a vitamin B3 deficiency at any age. It is rare for a healthy person who eats a balanced diet to suffer from a vitamin B3 deficiency.

There are no specific requirements to prepare for a Vitamin B3 Blood Test, but your provider may advise you to discontinue taking Niacin supplements for a few days before testing. Your provider will draw a blood sample from a vein in your arm. Vitamin B3 Blood Test results typically take 2-6 business days to process.

Tripment Health has partnered with nearly 7,000 lab test facilities across 48 states. Finding a Vitamin B3 Blood Test, current procedural technology (cpt) code 91029, is easier than ever. Add the lab tests you need to your cart, then select a testing facility conveniently close to you.

While there are several products on the market that claim that niacin supplements can help you pass a drug test by flushing toxins out of your body, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim. In fact, taking too much niacin can damage your liver and lead to niacin overdose, which is considered a medical emergency.
