  • Digital Report

This test measures levels of the steroid hormone cortisol late in the day, when they are at their lowest.

  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 1-6 days
  • Age: 18+

This test is often ordered to diagnose adrenal or pituitary gland issues, such as Cushing's Syndrome, Addison's Disease, or Adrenocortical Insufficiency or Hypersecretion. Cortisol helps maintain glucose levels, blood pressure, stress management, and immune response. Symptoms of irregular cortisol levels include abnormally high or low blood pressure, obesity, fragile skin, purple streaks on the abdomen, fatigue, abdominal pain, dark patches of skin, weight loss, high blood sugar, and weakness. This test should be taken between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. It should not be taken by someone receiving prednisone/prednisolone therapy.

No fasting required. Blood to be drawn late afternoon. Stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection.
