Pertussis Titer Blood

  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 2-6 days
  • Age: 18+

The pertussis titer test is typically done to check for immunity to the bacteria that causes whooping cough. The results of this test provide a quantitative measurement for the level of protective antibodies. This test can also be used to aid in the diagnosis of an acute infection. This test includes the pertussis toxin IgG and filamentous hemagglutinin antigen IgG. This test may be ordered by someone who has been vaccinated and wishes to verify the status of their immunity or is not sure if they have been vaccinated. Pertussis vaccinations are typically given to infants but may lose effectiveness as a person grows older. Verifying immune status is recommended for anyone who is at high risk for infection such as children entering school, healthcare workers, and people planning to travel internationally.

No special preparation is required.
