  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 2-6 days

This test measures Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) levels in the blood. CoQ10 is an antioxidant that contributes to basic cellular function. It is especially vital for ensuring that tissues with high energy demand, such as those in the heart, get the energy they need to function properly. Low CoQ10 levels are associated with cancer, diabetes, heart disease, HIV, muscular dystrophy, certain genetic disorders, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease. The CoQ10 test may be done as part of cancer or heart disease screening or to monitor treatment for conditions such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease.

Fasting is not required. Patients should not take Coenzyme Q10 supplements the morning of the test.
