The Chicken Pox is a highly contagious virus that causes itchy blisters all over the body. This test measures IgG antibodies to the Varicella-Zoster virus to prove immunity.

The Varicella-Zoster Virus Antibodies IgG test checks for immunity to the virus that causes chickenpox. It measures the levels of IgG antibodies, which are produced at detectable levels a few weeks after infection or vaccination. Most people are vaccinated against the Varicella virus when they are young, or they recover from the virus and develop natural immunity. Chickenpox causes an itchy rash and fluid-filled blisters. The virus can also remain latent in the body post-recovery and resurface as shingles later in life, a condition with painful itching and burning across different parts of the body. This test is often ordered if someone is required to show proof of immunity, during pregnancy, or in preparation of an organ transplant.

No special preparation is required.
