Estradiol, a component of estrogen, can indicate ovarian function in women, or diagnose testosterone deficiency in men.

  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 1-6 days
  • Age: 18+

Estradiol is a steroid, and is one of the components of estrogen. Estradiol levels decrease significantly during menopause. Estradiol tests are primarily used to monitor ovarian function in women who experience problems with fertility or abnormal menstruation. They are also sometimes ordered for men with symptoms of testosterone deficiency.

The Estradiol Blood Test works by collecting a blood sample and measuring estradiol levels. Certain medications and supplements can interfere with the results of this test, so be sure to give your provider a complete list of medications and supplements that you are taking.

No fasting is required. Patients must avoid having a radioisotope scan prior to the collection of specimens.
