Dementia is a general term for conditions that cause loss of memory, and difficulty with cognitive function.

  • Sample Type: Blood
  • Results: 5-7 days
  • Age: 18+

The process of diagnosing dementia and finding its cause can require multiple types of testing and examinations. Typically, one of the first steps is a series of blood tests to help rule out other conditions that may cause similar signs or symptoms.

This package includes a number of tests that may provide useful information for a person to discuss with their doctor.

Complete Blood Count (CBC): Anemia caused by a low red blood cell count can affect cognitive function. So can some types of infections.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Chronic high blood sugar and electrolyte balance can cause deficits in memory and attention as well as slow cognitive function.
Thyroid Panel with TSH: Thyroid disorders can sometimes cause memory problems, depression, and difficulty concentrating.
Vitamin B12: B12 deficiency has been shown to cause cognitive and memory impairment.
C-Reactive Protein & Sedimentation Rate (ESR): Inflammation can have a negative effect on cognition and can be a risk factor for developing Alzheimer's.

Fasting for 9-12 hours is recommended.
