Keep tabs on heart health and blood sugar levels, as well as Vitamin D and testosterone - key players in muscle development and resistance.

What is this test?

Did you know that nearly 1 in 10 adults has undiagnosed high cholesterol, and 3% of adults have undiagnosed diabetes? Our Fitness Panel measures the following substances in your blood, to see how much of your fitness plan should revolve around hitting the gym, and how much depends on blood sugar, cholesterol, and hormones:

  • Glucose (blood sugar) – Glucose is the chief source of energy for your cells. Blood sugar abnormalities can go undetected for a long time, and can lead to unexpected weight loss or weight gain.
  • Hemoglobin A1C – Hemoglobin A1c measures the average amount of blood sugar (glucose) level for the past two to three months. Pairing a glucose test with a hemoglobin A1C test can provide a more accurate view of what’s going on.
  • Vitamin D – Abnormally low levels of vitamin D in an otherwise healthy individual could signify malabsorption conditions, like Crohn's disease or even cystic fibrosis.
  • Testosterone – Testosterone tests aren’t just for men. This hormone is important for muscle and bone development across genders.
  • Lipid Panel – The Fitness Panel also includes the four tests that make up the Lipid Panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides). Many people have genetic predispositions to high cholesterol, which can lead to cardiovascular troubles down the road. It’s important to catch cholesterol issues early in life.

Not only is it important to start paying attention to hormones, blood sugar, and cholesterol from a young age, but these tests should be repeated annually, as levels can change over time. Your provider may ask you to fast for 8-12 hours before sample collection.
